Reception at Dulwich Village C of E Infants’ School

Our Principles

Every child is unique and capable of learning and growing.

  • Strong, positive relationships between children, staff and families are key.

  • Children thrive in enabling environments with responsive teaching.

  • All children develop at different rates; we value and support every child.

Our Aims

At DVIS we aim to:

  • Nurture curiosity and independence.

  • Provide rich opportunities for play, exploration and first-hand experiences.

  • Create stimulating, well-organised indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Ensure teaching is responsive to individual needs and interests.

  • Work closely with parents and foster a positive, “can-do” culture.

Our Curriculum

At DVIS we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2021), focusing on:

  • Prime Areas: Communication & Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social & Emotional Development.

  • Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts & Design.

How We Learn

At DVIS we learn through:

  • Children making independent choices and exploring indoors and outdoors daily.

  • Adults observing, interacting and guiding learning through play and conversation.

  • Planning that is collaborative, based on observations and the children’s interests.

  • Assessments which are ongoing, supported by parent input and termly checks.

Outdoor Learning

Our wonderful large Reception garden is an extension of the classroom, offering space for active, hands-on learning, problem-solving and imaginative play.
